Sports Injuries

At Freedom Osteopathy and Sports Injury Clinic we understand the injuries that can affect your bones, muscles, joints or the tendons and ligaments which hold them together.

It doesn't have to have occured when playing sport - you can easily injure yourself gardening or just going for a walk.

It is important not to try and carry on in the hope that the problem will resolve itself. This can make injuries much worse and move them up from acute to chronic which are far harder to treat.

Sports massage can help to reduce fatigue, alleviate swelling, reduce muscle tension, promote flexibility, prevent injuries and prepare the athlete for optimal performance. Applied skillfully it can be a very effective technique for releasing tension and restoring balance to the musculo-skeletal system. It can be a valuable part in any athlete’s preparation and recovery, preventing injury and helping to achieve optimal performance.

Typical njuries are either traumatic (a broken bone, a twisted knee, a sprained ankle) or occur over time and result as identifiable problems (new sports, different or poor equipment, poor technique, failure to warm up or warm down).

   Other injury risk factors include:

Leg length differences
Altered foot mechanics (pronation or supination)
Muscle weakness or imbalance
"Knock knees" or Genu Valgum and "Bow legs" or Genu Varum
Reduced flexibility
Overweight - this puts increased loading on muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints during weight-bearing activities

Whatever the cause of your injury it is important to get it looked at as soon as possible. We will get you back to your sport (or back into the garden) in the shortest amount of time.

We offer Sports Massage, Ultrasound and Electrotherapy along with advice on stretching and rehabiliation. If you require it we will arrange a training schedule to ensure your chances of re-injuring yourself are minimised.
